Overview

The HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course is the NEW updated version, replacing the superseded HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from 2021.

The unit provides participants with the skills and knowledge to assist in a cardiac arrest where CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is required. It covers all aspects of basic resuscitation as well as the use of defibrillators in the public setting.

In this course you will learn about:

• recognising a cardiac arrest
• ensuring your safety
• gaining assistance from emergency services
• the correct method for performing CPR
• using defibrillator
• and more…

Due to the unit outcomes required, it is impractical to assess practical demonstration in a real setting where CPR and first aid is being applied, therefore, techniques and practice will need to be demonstrated in AHSI’s simulated environment.

To achieve the unit, HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, students must successfully complete:

• Theory assessment: Online questions and written short answer questions are recorded as satisfactory by the assessor.
• Skills demonstration/observation: The student must be deemed satisfactory in all demonstration of skills.

• CPR refresher is recommended annually.

The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course is the NEW updated version, replacing the superseded HLTAID003 Provide First Aid course from 2021.

The HLTAID0011 Provide First Aid unit provides participants with the skills and knowledge to assist in almost any emergency situation involving first aid.

In this course you will learn about:

• anaphylaxis
• asthma
• CPR techniques on adults, children and infants
• incident reporting
• how to properly assess an emergency situation
• DRSABCD
• using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• first aid procedures for bleeding, burns and fractures
• managing medical conditions such as epilepsy and asthma
• managing medical emergencies such as snake/spider bites, poisons and choking
• infection control procedures
• managing exposure to extreme temperatures
• administering first aid for eye & soft tissue injuries
• assessing and moving sick & injured
• legal responsibilities of a first aider
• basic anatomy
• managing shock
• and much, much more!

The HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting course is the NEW updated version, replacing the superseded HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting course from 2021.

The HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting, covers all the aspects of the Provide First Aid course as well as providing additional training especially in areas of asthma and anaphylaxis specific for the childcare industry.

In this course you will learn about:

Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide medication assistance, and complete medication documentation. It also involves supporting a client to self-administer medication. This unit applies to community services and health workers with authority in their state or territory to assist with the administration of medication. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

The following topics are covered in this course:

• Plan to assist with medication
• Prepare the client for assistance with administration of medication
• Support clients with administration of medication
• Handle medication contingencies
• Complete medication distribution and documentation
• This course is tailored for care workers in the residential and community care settings including disability workers.

To achieve HLTHPS006 Assist clients with medication the unit must be successfully completed including a successful demonstration of skills.

Students must successfully complete:

• Workshop: One full day of class-based learning.
  • The workshop includes revision of theory and simulated medication rounds
• Theory: Written assessments which are completed by the student as self-paced learning.
  • The assessment book is required to be submitted to our Head Office 2 weeks prior to your workshop date and assessed as “Satisfactory”
• Work placement – Students must be assessed in a workplace environment and demonstrate assistance with medication:
  • to at least 5 different clients according to their care plans
  • with at least 5 different types of medication
  • used at least 3 different modes of administration

• Upon successful course completion students receive a Nationally Recognised certificate for HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication

Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to administer medications to people and monitor them, as per the delegation from a relevant health professional, in accordance with legislation and the employing organisation’s medication and delegation policies and practice.

This unit applies to community services and health workers with the relevant authority in their state or territory to administer medication and monitor them as per the delegation from a relevant health professional.

• prepare for medication administration
• identify and prepare the client for administration of medication

• complete medication distribution and administration

To achieve HLTHPS007Administer and monitor medications unit:

Students must successfully complete:

• Workshop: One full day of class-based learning.
  • The workshop includes revision of theory and simulated medication rounds
• Theory: Written assessments which are completed by the student as self-paced learning.
  • The assessment book is required to be submitted to our Head Office 2 weeks prior to your workshop date and assessed as “Satisfactory”
• Work placement: Students must be assessed in a workplace environment and demonstrate assistance with medication:
  • administration of medications to at least 10 different people
  • identify and prepare the client for medication administration
  • monitor client response after administration
  • handle medication contingencies
  • manage the medication distribution and administration
  • make accurate drug calculations

• Upon successful course completion students receive a Nationally Recognised certificate for HLTHPS007 Administer and monitor medications
